Principal's Message | Catholic Education Week
Dear Parents,
Our school, along with the 44 other Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sale, will celebrate Catholic Education Week from 21st to 28th May. The theme for this year’s celebrations is Faith in the Future - I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.
As Catholic schools, we are called to do more than just pass on the faith: we are invited to translate our faith into deeds so we are truly living God’s Word.
Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools to celebrate our distinctive mission and share features that are special about our schools.
Our school will also hold a number of activities including our Open Afternoon, Prayer Service and collaborative activities within the classrooms.
Members of our staff will be attending the Leadership Mass and Dinner held in Traralgon on Friday, 21 May.
Our school uniform is currently fully available apart from the Winter Tunic and Summer School Dress. With this in mind we now expect that all students to wear the correct uniform (including school bags) and that it is brought from Beleza. Please see below for our uniform requirements, term 2 and 3 are winter uniform.
As a gesture of good will from Beleza they have also offered our families 50% off the costs of tunics in store for a month after they arrive and our uniform costs this year will remain the same with no increases.
With the cooler weather setting in our sports Rugby Jumpers are a popular choice at the moment, however, these are only to be worn on sports days (Friday).
Could all families please ensure that you have clearly labelled your child’s uniform.
For the safety of all students please make sure we are entering the school car park correctly via the Downton Street entry and please no more than 20km an hour in the car parking zone.

Students will be required to wear their full sports uniform and bring fruit, snack and lunch in a lunchbox labelled with their name and a labelled drink bottle. School bags will not be required for this excursion. More details can be found on your PAM Excursion form.
Parents & Friends Committee | All Welcome
The first Parents and Friends Committee meeting will be on Wednesday 26th May at 9am, all are welcome to attend.
The P & F Commitee will work on providing a positive and friendly community beyond the classroom. This will include the coordination of fundraising and fun events for our students and families to engage in.
A reminder that Wednesday is library day. Please ensure students have their library book on this day if they would like to borrow a new one. A big thank you to all the parents who have helped contact books. We still have more books to contact, if you are able to lend a hand please speak to the ladies in the office.
Reflection from Deacon Mark Kelly | Go into all the world!
Always and everywhere, Jesus message has been to proclaim the Kingdom of God. The purpose of his incarnation is that proclamation and his death and resurrection are the ultimate example and expression of the Creators love for us. He is the Good News he proclaims!
“The gospel is about the kingdom of God; it is about loving God; it is about loving God who reigns in our world. To the extent that he reigns within us, the life of society will be a setting for universal fraternity, justice, peace, and dignity. Both Christian preaching and life are meant to have an impact on society. …. Jesus’ mission is to inaugurate the kingdom of his Father; he commands his disciples to proclaim the good news that “the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Mt 10:7)” ( Pope Francis The Joy of the Gospel 180).
That Kingdom is in the future, but it is with us too in the here and now: in the loving Creator who is on the side of the poor, sick, beggars and outcasts, sinners and those who suffer injustice. “Jesus invites us to live his experience of a Father God more human and greater than all our theories: God as saviour and friend.” (Pagola, Jesus an Historical Approximation p24)
Now, the resurrected Jesus commissions the disciples (and us) to take up the baton, proclaiming what he has taught: “Go into all world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:15) What a task we are set! We are but ordinary people in the antipodes, as those first disciples were in an obscure corner of Empire. How to go about it? Maybe one foot in front of the other, lovingly living life, confident of our Creator as saviour and friend.

Homegroup 1 and 2 have been focusing on different addition and subtraction strategies to help us solve problems really quickly and efficiently.
So I can get 2 different groups and I put the 2 numbers together. I put the biggest number in my head and count on using the other number. -Aaron
We used our fingers to make the sign for addition. -Haven
When we add numbers together the numbers get bigger. – Isla
A near doubles example is 7 and 8 because they are near each other. I found out how to do near doubles because I know my doubles and then add 1 or 2. -0llie
I have been working on solving in my head. I start at the ones and then go to the higher numbers so if I need to carry it is easier. – Lily
Difference helps us to solve addition and subtraction problems. The difference between 4 and 6 is 2. – Flynn
There are lots of different ways to make 10 so we can solve problems to 10 really fast. 5 and 5 makes 10. – Joshua

USE Japanese for FUN.
楽しんで話します。
USE Japanese. Yes but in what context? Well mostly we are learning Japanese that can be used between students in classroom settings. Which is why last term was focussing on asking for things, passing things and talking about what you have.
Let's USE Japanese for FUN.
Now we are able to complete the sentence with the verb ‘asonde’ (play).
Felt をください。
Felt o kudasai.
Felt please.
This group is inviting another person to play.
私と一緒に 遊んでください?
Watashi to issho ni asobu?
Me and together with play?
(Can I play with you? / Do you want to play with me?)
What things do you do? Email me to let me know and I will help you make a Japanese way to say it. Especially if it fits the “object - verb” pattern. office@trafalgar.catholic.edu.au
