This week, students undertook a review of the Child Friendly Child Safe Policy. This  policy is presented to students by students, promoting both student agency and student voice.

In the last fortnight, we also enjoyed a vibrant Father’s Day Breakfast, where more than 350 egg and bacon rolls were served, and celebrated a fantastic Art Show, showcasing the creativity of our students.

There is so much to sit back and enjoy at our wonderful school, and we thank our families and community for being such an important part of it.

Child Safety – Every Conversation Matters:
At St Angela’s, we believe that every conversation matters when it comes to the safety and wellbeing of our students. Whether it’s a quick chat in the playground, a classroom discussion, or a thoughtful check-in at home, each conversation builds trust and helps our children feel valued, respected, and heard.

By encouraging open and honest communication, we create an environment where students know they can speak up, share their feelings, and seek support when needed. These conversations, big or small, play an important role in strengthening our culture of child safety and ensuring every student feels safe and supported at school.

A Visit from Our Local Police:
Last week, our school was excited to welcome Leading Senior Constable Paula Fowler and Constable Meg Preston from Warragul Police Station. Students enjoyed the chance to chat with our local police, ask lots of questions, and hear important child safety tips in a fun and friendly way.

It was a great reminder that police are here to help us, not just in emergencies, but as friendly faces in our community every day. The students loved the visit and are already looking forward to seeing them again!

Art Show:
Last Wednesday we held our Art Show, with Sara Harris and Kasey Burrell overseeing the creation of more than 1,000 pieces of student artwork. These works were proudly displayed on tables, walls, windows and pinboards for families to enjoy. The creativity and talent of our students shone through, and the positive feedback we received highlighted not only the quality of the work but also the strong sense of community we share.

A heartfelt thank you to Jamie Harris and Belinda Thomson for going above and beyond for our students, along with the dedicated P&F members who came in to support the setup. We are also very grateful to Marist Sion for generously providing the display boards, which helped us showcase the students’ work so beautifully.

The St Angela Flag Bearers:
Each day, our dedicated Grade 5/6 students come together to raise and lower the school flags. Rain, hail or shine, they take pride in this responsibility and support our school community with great respect. Today, Zoe, supported by Georgia and Billie, carried out this important role. We thank them, and others who have contributed to this role for their commitment and care.

Thank you:
Thank you to Xavier and the team at Baker's Delight (Coles Arcade) for their generousity in supplying St Angela's with all the hot dog rolls for our upcoming Footy Colours Day and allowing us to purchase the hamburger rolls at a heavily discounted rate for our recent Father's Day Breakfast.  Wonderful community spirit, we are grateful for their support.

Community Day for the Luthra Family:
A few parents from St Angela of the Cross have come together to support the Luthra family in their time of need. With the passing of Sumit last month, our community is rallying to raise much-needed funds for Maninder and her family.

As part of this effort, a Community Movie Day has been organised for our upcoming school closure day, Monday October 6, at Peninsula Cinemas, Warragul. The event will begin at 10am. Tickets are $30, which includes the movie admission and two candy bar items.

A raffle will also be held, generously supported by local families and businesses who have donated prizes.

This is a wonderful initiative led by members of our school community. We encourage everyone to support in their own way—whether by attending, contributing financially, or offering the gift of prayer for the Luthra family.  Please see the flyer attached for further information.

As part of our commitment to fostering a positive, consistent and supportive learning environment, St Angela’s uses shared expectations to guide student behaviour and promote a strong sense of community. Our school wide expectations of Safe, Respectful, Inclusive and Persistent, are not only valuable at school but can also be a helpful tool for reflection and growth at home.

We encourage you to use these expectations as a framework for conversations with your child. When discussing a situation, whether it is a success or a challenge, you may like to try asking reflective questions such as:

• ‘Which school expectation were you using in that moment?’
• ‘How did being safe / respectful / inclusive / persistent help you handle that?’
• ‘What might you do differently next time to better meet the school wide expectations?’

Using common language between school and home helps children make stronger connections, understand their actions, and build the skills they need to thrive both academically and socially.

As part of Child Safety Week, students in 5/6D reviewed the school’s student-friendly version of the Child Safe Policy. This important activity helped our senior leaders develop a deeper understanding of their rights and empowered them to become active participants in building a respectful and safe school environment.

Our 5/6 leaders then confidently presented the policy to all students across the school, explaining the key messages in their own words. Well done to our senior students for showing leadership, confidence, and care. You’ve set a wonderful example for our school community!

Positive Partnerships are providing some wonderful free online workshops for parents and carers throughout Term 4.
