Performing Arts

This term, one topic we are learning about is the Opening Ceremony Celebrations in the Olympics.
Last week we looked at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremony and all the Performance elements used. We discussed the use of parades, costume, props, lighting, song, dance, sound and story telling.
We also talked about how many performers were used to make large shapes, such as the emblem for the Olympics.
Below students are creating their own shape with the use of their bodies and others, as seen in the Opening Ceremony.

At the end of term's Art Show, we are planning on performing our own simple Opening Ceremony. During Lockdown students were asked to create St Angela flags that we can use during this ceremony.
If you and your family haven't already, it would be great if you could watch a little bit of the Tokyo Opening Ceremony, 2021 which aired last Friday. What is the ceremony like without an audience and with Covid restrictions? How does the Opening Ceremony represent Japan? What Performance elements do you recognise?
Here are Anna, Oscar and Aria's flags they made during lockdown last week.
